MANILA, Philippines – Itutuloy ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang nationwide simultaneous school safety drill para sa active threat scenarios sa Setyembre 3 upang palakasin ang kahandaan ng mga paaralan, habang mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ang mga elementong maaaring magdulot ng takot sa mga estudyante.
“Our goal for September 3 is to build calm operational confidence and muscle memory through proper orientation, not fear,” sabi ni Education Secretary Sonny Angara.
Isasagawa ang mga drill matapos ang mga insidente ng pamamaril sa mga paaralan sa Tacloban at Zamboanga City. Nauna namang ipinagpaliban ang Agosto 25 drill upang maiayon ang simulation sa child-centered at trauma-informed standards ng mga medical at mental health professionals.
Ayon kay Angara, kailangang sabay na bigyang-prayoridad ang physical security at mental health ng mga mag-aaral.
Mahigpit na ipinagbabawal sa drill ang hyper-realistic o fear-inducing elements, kabilang ang threat simulations, aktuwal na aggressor role-players, armas, at graphic materials.
Sa nationwide drill, magsasanay ang mga klase sa maayos na pag-secure ng mga entry point, tahimik na pagtatago mula sa mga bintana, at pagrerepaso ng ligtas na evacuation routes. Hindi rin papayagan ang mga pulis na magpakita ng tactical disarming drills at agresibong uniform displays.
Sa halip, tututok ang pulisya sa external perimeter security, emergency notification systems, dispatch response times, at post-incident learner tracking.
Magbibigay rin ang mga paaralan ng alternatibong aktibidad para sa mga batang may special needs, disabilities, o sensory sensitivities, alinsunod sa rekomendasyon ng kanilang mga magulang o guardian.
“Every kid has their own level of strength and understanding, that’s why we can’t conduct a one-size-fits-all approach to safety,” ani Angara.
Pagkatapos ng simulation, magsasagawa ang guidance personnel at school health officers ng first aid at post-drill debriefing sessions para sa mga estudyante.
“Safety is not just about physical security; it is equally about protecting our children’s peace of mind,” sabi ni Angara.
“We are working closely with our medical experts and psychiatric societies to ensure our shared priority for the total well-being of our children remains at the center of our implementation,” dagdag niya. RNT/MDS
