MANILA, Philippines – Humingi ng paumanhin si Atty. Mark Vinluan, abogado ni Vice President Sara Duterte, sa mga senator-judge matapos ang mga pahayag niya na maaaring napagkamalang pananakot sa testigo o mga miyembro ng media habang tinatanong ang opisyal ng Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC).
Sa kanyang cross-examination kay AMLC Secretariat Executive Director Ronel Buenaventura, binanggit ni Vinluan ang mga parusa sa ilalim ng Anti-Money Laundering Act habang tinatalakay ang pagiging kumpidensyal ng mga financial records.
Pinuna siya nina Senator-judges Raffy Tulfo, Risa Hontiveros, Kiko Pangilinan at Vicente “Tito” Sotto III dahil sa mga pahayag na maaaring ituring na pananakot sa testigo o media.
“When we read portions of the law during our cross-examination, it is never our intention to cause intimidation, especially to the members of this honorable impeachment court,” ani Vinluan.
“If in any way a different message was indirectly conveyed, I personally apologize, and commit to be more circumspect moving forward,” dagdag niya.
Ipinaliwanag ni Vinluan na layunin lamang ng kanyang mga tanong na suriin ang kredibilidad ni Buenaventura at malaman kung tama ang aplikasyon nito sa batas.
“In all humility, our intention in cross-examination is to test the credibility of the witness, among others, and part of testing that credibility is to confront him not just with documents but with salient provisions of the law so we could demonstrate whether or not his application of the law is correct,” ani Vinluan.
Nagkaroon naman ng magaan na sandali sa impeachment court nang sabihin ni Tulfo na tila “scared” si Senator-judge Lito Lapid sa mga naging pahayag ni Vinluan.
Sinabi ni Vinluan na wala siyang intensiyong manakot ng sinuman, lalo na si Lapid na tinawag niyang “very gracious” sa defense team.
“Maraming salamat po sa maja blanca,” dagdag ni Vinluan, na nagdulot ng mga ngiti kay Lapid at iba pang senator-judge. RNT/MDS
