MANILA, Philippines- Inihayag ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Biyernes na hindi ito mahahadlangan sa pagsasagawa ng mandato nito sa nagbabadyang implementasyon ng bagong regulasyon ng China na nagbibigay-awtoridad sa coast guard nito na hulihin ang mga dayuhang maaakusahan ng panghihimasok sa South China Sea, kasama ang ilang parte ng West Philippine Sea.
Sinabi ni AFP Public Affairs Office chief Colonel Xerxes Trinidad na labag ang anti-trespassing policy ng Beijing, iiral sa Sabado, Hunyo 15, sa rule of law at international norms na nangangasiwa sa maritime conduct.
“The presence and actions of its vessels in our waters are illegal, coercive, aggressive and deceptive. We will not be deterred or intimidated,” giit ni Trinidad.
“The AFP remains steadfast in our mission to protect our nation’s rights and ensure the safety of our personnel and citizens in the West Philippine Sea,” dagdag niya.
Sa ilalim ng kontrobersyal na regulasyon, ang mga dayuhang maaakusahan ng ilegal na pagpasok sa “Chinese waters” ay maaaring iditene hanggang 60 araw nang walang paglilitis.
Inihayag ng AFP na ipagpapatuloy nito ang pagsasagawa ng maritime patrols sa mga lugar na saklaw ng hurisdiksyon ng Pilipinas.
Noong Martes, sinabi ni Philippine Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Commodore Roy Vincent Trinidad na hindi papayagan ng Philippine government na arestuhin ng China ang mga Pilipinong maglalayag sa West Philippine Sea.
“Nothing will happen. The actions right now of the Philippine Navy, AFP, PCG and BFAR and all maritime players of the Philippine government are to prevent such situations [detention of Filipinos accessing the WPS],” sabi ni Trinidad sa press briefing sa Camp Aguinaldo sa Quezon City.
“We are not the only one concerned. Even other countries are concerned about that. This is not only the problem of the Philippines, but the problem of ASEAN and the international community,” dagdag ng opisyal. RNT/SA
