MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) nitong Martes na nananatili ang findings nito sa kabila ng pahayag ng asawa ng Chinese national na si Deng Yuanqing na nagsasabing hindi espiya ang kanyang asawa.
“In terms of the interview that was conducted with the wife, the AFP understands her concern—she is emotionally involved being the wife—but for the AFP, we’ll look into the evidence-based results of the investigation. Anything in our power to help in aiding the truth come out from this, we will do in the AFP,” pahayag ni military spokesperson Col. Francel Margareth Padilla sa isang press briefing.
Nanindigan ang AFP na sangkot si Deng sa “unauthorized foreign surveillance and reconnaissance activity” na tumarget sa military camps, police camps, power plants, mga opisina ng local government units, seaports, airports at shopping malls sa bansa.
Noong January 20, sinabi ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) na naaresto si Deng at dalawa pang Pilipino dahil sa naiulat na espionage activities.
“It’s really our SOP to fortify the security of our camps. But over and above that, with our internal security protocols, the entry of visitors inside camps is heightened. Of course, even our cybersecurity,” ani Padilla ukol dito.
Nauna nang sinabi ng NBI at ng AFP na posibleng sangkot ang lalaking Chinese sa hinihinalang operasyon ng foreign power sa natuklasang “high-precision topographic mapping” sa kanilang sasakyan nang maaresto ang mga ito. RNT/SA
