MANILA, Philippines – Kinondena ng mga foreign minister ng G7 nations ang mga aksyon ng China sa South China Sea na banta umano sa regional stability.
Kasabay nito ay nagpaabot din ng pangamba ang mga ito sa hakbang na pigilan ang fredom of navigation at overflight sa pamamagitan ng
“force” at “coercion” sa South China Sea.
“We condemn China’s illicit, provocative, coercive and dangerous actions that seek unilaterally to alter the status quo in such a way as to risk undermining the stability of regions, including through land reclamations, and building of outposts, as well as their use for military purpose,” saad sa deklarasyon ng G7 foreign ministers kasunod ng kanilang meeting sa La Malbaie, Canada noong nakaraang linggo.
“We oppose unilateral attempts to change the status quo, in particular by force or coercion including in the East and South China Seas.”
Iginiit ng mga minister ang kahalagahan ng freedom of navigation and overflight, na areas of concern para sa Pilipinas sa territorial dispute nito sa China.
Tinukoy ang mga nagdaang insidente ng paggamit ng water cannon ng China sa mga barko ng Pilipinas sa West Philippine Sea, at ang insidente noong Pebrero kung saan lumipad ang isang Chinese helicopter malapit sa eroplano ng Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) sa Bajo de Masinloc o Scarborough Shoal.
“We condemn, as well, dangerous vessel maneuvers, the indiscriminate attacks against commercial vessels and other maritime actions that undermine maritime order based on the rule of law and international law,” sinabi ng foreign ministers.
Iginiit din ng mga ito na sa 2016 Arbitral Ruling ay kinatigan ang exclusive economic zone ng Pilipinas kontra sa historical claim ng China.
Tumugon naman ang Chinese Embassy sa Canada sa pagsasabing ang Asia-Pacific region ay “not a chessboard for geopolitical rivalries.”
Hinimok din ng embassy ang G7 na “abandon the Cold War mentality and stop creating bloc confrontation and fueling tensions in the region.” RNT/JGC
