MANILA, Philippines – Ilulunsad ng Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Science High School System (DOST-PSHS) ang isang artificial intelligence (AI) elective course sa susunod na school year sa main campus nito sa Quezon City.

Ayon kay PSHS Main Campus Director Rod Allan de Lara, ang kursong “Artificial Intelligence and Immersive Technology” ay iaalok sa mga mag-aaral mula Grade 10 hanggang Grade 12 bilang bahagi ng elective subjects ng paaralan.

“Grade 10 to 12 kasi yan po yung pag-introduce namin ng mga elective sa aming curriculum,” pahayag ni De Lara. “And then, eventually, the integration with other subjects will come in,” dagdag niya.

Kasabay nito, inilunsad din ang kauna-unahang AI laboratory ng paaralan na magbibigay-daan sa mga estudyante hindi lamang gumamit ng AI kundi makabuo rin ng AI models at applications gamit ang high-performance computers na may Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).

Sa halip na pisikal na laboratoryo, gumagamit ang paaralan ng cloud storage na may 10 hanggang 20 terabytes capacity na naka-host sa data center sa Singapore.

“They (students) have to create an account to have access to the cloud, and the cloud is created with a very high-powered GPU and storage, 10 to 20 terabytes of data storage capacity, and that’s a lot,” ani De Lara.

Upang matiyak ang responsableng paggamit ng AI, isasama ng DOST-PSHS ang AI ethics sa values education, bagaman aminado si De Lara na mahirap tukuyin ang malinaw na hangganan ng tama at mali sa AI environment.

“To be very honest, it’s difficult. Well, for one, values are something that many view as very subjective. The notion of what is right and wrong is often in the gray area,” aniya.

“So at the end of the day, kung ano yung na-implicate sa aming mga studyante from Grade 7 to 10. I hope they will carry that through as they go through their journey of [AI] development,” dagdag niya.

Ang hakbang ay kasunod ng inilabas na polisiya ng Department of Education noong Pebrero 2026 na naglilinaw sa paggamit ng AI sa basic education, kabilang ang lesson planning, paggawa ng learning materials, grading assistance, at administrative tasks, ngunit may mahigpit na requirement ng human oversight sa lahat ng AI systems.
