MANILA, Philippines – Ipinagpaliban ng Kamara nitong Miyerkules, Setyembre 16 ang aksyon sa proposed P19.49 bilyong budget ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) para sa 2027.
Sa pahayag, sinabi ng DICT na ang deferment ay ginawa sa deliberasyon ng plenaryo “pending the resolution of serious and long-standing concerns involving Meta,” the company that owns Facebook and other social media platforms.
Ayon sa ahensya, kabilang sa mga alalahanin ay ang Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) at Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), na inilarawan bilang grave threats na nangangailangan ng “decisive action and full accountability.”
“These are compounded by other persistent harms facilitated or amplified on major platforms, including online illegal gambling, cyberbullying, social media addiction, depression, and related mental health risks that continue to endanger Filipino children and young people,” sinabi pa.
Ayon sa DICT, ang Meta “continues to fall short of its responsibility and commitment to youth safety.”
“Accountability cannot be optional,” dagdag pa.
“The safety and welfare of Filipino children must remain paramount. Technology companies that operate in the Philippines must be held to the highest standards of responsibility. Persistent failure to address these risks erodes public trust and cannot be tolerated.”
Samantala, sinabi ng DICT na patuloy itong makikipagtulungan sa Kongreso, law enforcement agencies, child protection advocates, at technology partners para palakasin ang hakbang sa pagprotekta sa mga bata online at pag-promote ng ligtas at magpakakatiwalaang digital environment sa mga Filipino.
