MANILA, Philippines- Tinanong ni suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo nitong Huwebes kung bakit sa kanya nakatutok ang mga mambabatas, at inihayag na handa siyang harapin ang mga alegasyon laban sa kanya “in a fair trial at a proper forum.”
Binanggit ni Guo sina Sen. Risa Hontiveros at Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian at hiniling na tutukan nila ang ibang mga isyu tulad ng kakulangan ng pagkain at healthcare sa halip na “threatening [her] with arrest.”
“If they have evidence against me, I am ready to face them in a fair trial and at a proper forum. Respectfully, I do not wish to be used by anyone to boost their political ambitions,” giit ni Guo.
“I appeal to them to focus their attention on these problems instead of continuously threatening me with arrest and accusing me of being complicit in various Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGO)-related crimes, which are untrue and unfounded,” aniya pa.
“Am I really the country’s biggest problem that they need to focus on? Or do they just want to project me as the antagonist/villain?” patuloy ni Guo.
Iniimbestigahan ng Senado ang suspendidong alkalde kaugnay ng umano’y ilegal na aktibidad sa sinalakay na POGO sa Bamban.
Kinuwestiyon din ng mga senador ang kanyang pagkakakilanlan kasunod ng hindi tugmang sagot nito sa mga tanong hinggil sa kanyang nationality at personal na buhay.
Nauna nang ipinag-utos ng Senate panel ang pag-isyu ng arrest order laban kay Guo sa hindi nito pagsipot sa imbestigasyon sa sinalakay na POGO hub sa Bamban.
Subalit, sinabi ni Guo na hindi siya nakadalo sa mga nakaraang pagdinig dahil sa “severe exhaustion and trauma” na naranasan niya sa naunang hearings at sa mga kasong inihain laban sa kanya.
Gayundin, inihayag ni Guo na wala siyang kinalaman sa death threats na natanggap ni Gatchalian.
“The news linking me to various accusations is baseless, and they are just trying to implicate me. I have nothing to do with these issues, but I am being accused of all sorts of things because I am currently at the center of public attention,” giit ni Guo.
Sinagot din ng alkalde ang pahayag ni Gatchalian na aktibo pa ang kanyang Chinese passport.
“If anyone can disregard my right to privacy by prying into my personal records, they will know whether I have left the Philippines without simply asking the BID or the DFA, as I do not hold a Chinese passport,” wika ni Guo. RNT/SA
