TINATAYA ng Department of Finance (DOF) na ang average yearly income ng mga Filipino ay ‘on track’ sa halos doble sa susunod na anim na taon na P378,000, bunsod ng lumalawak na middle class.
Sinabi ni Finance Secretary Ralph G. Recto, sa ngayon, ang average income kada tao sa Pilipinas ay $3,541, o P206,000 taun-taon.
“Given the current pace of economic growth, the typical income for Filipinos could nearly double by 2030, reaching $6,500, equivalent to P378,150 at the present exchange rate,” ayon sa Kalihim.
Sinabi ni Recto na ang mabilis na income growth ay dahil na rin sa matatag na local labor market na nagtutulak sa paggasta ng mga mamimili na ‘accounted’ para sa mahigit na 70% ng ekonomiya.
“All our labor force indicators–unemployment and underemployment rates–continue to decline to historically low levels and are even better than pre-pandemic,” ayon kay Recto.
“In addition, more and more Filipinos are engaged in formal and stable jobs, constituting the largest portion of our workforce,” dagdag na wika nito.
Ayon sa Philippine Statistics Authority, bumaba ang unemployment rate sa 3.5% noong Pebrero.
Sa kaparehong panahon, nag-improve ang kalidad ng trabaho na may pagbabago ng underemployment rate sa 12.4%.
“Enhancing the quality of employment for Filipinos is crucial for the growth of the middle class and “reinforces the Philippines’ path towards becoming an upper-middle-income country next year.” aniya pa rin.
Tinukoy naman ni Recto ang iba pang ‘key driver’ ng domestic consumer demand, at ito ay ang tuloy-tuloy na daloy ng remittances mula sa overseas Filipino workers.
“While comprising only four percent of the labor force, overseas Filipinos contribute remittances equivalent to nine percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) annually,” aniya pa rin.
“these remittances not only serve as a reliable source of income for their families but is also fueling the growth of small businesses in local communities,” ayon sa Kalihim.
