MANILA, Philippines – Tinanggap nina Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at Prime Minister Lawrence Wong ang imbitasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na bumisita sa bansa ngayong taon.
Ito ang iniulat ng Pangulo nitong Sabado, Hunyo 1, matapos ang kanyang four-day trip sa Singapore at Brunei Darussalaam.
“[President Tharman] has already graced our invitation for him to visit and is planning a visit to our country in August. And the Prime Minister [said] he will follow as quickly as he can,’’ saad sa arrival statement ni Marcos.
“We committed to work hard in pursuing the signing of three near-completion [memorandums of understanding] by the time the Singaporean president visits Manila later this year,’’ dagdag pa niya.
Dumating si Marcos at si first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos 3:58 ng madaling araw nitong Sabado sa Villamor Air Base sa Pasay City.
Nagkaroon ng bilateral talks sina Marcos at Tharman bago ang keynote address ng Pangulo sa 2024 Shangri-La Dialogue, na inorganisa ng International Institute of Strategic Studies, Biyernes ng gabi.
Binanggit niya ang mga naging palitan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Singapore sa nakalipas na 55 taon, partikular na ang people-to-people at hakbang upang pigilan ang climate change.
Nakipagkita rin ang Pangulo kay Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte, at mga miyembro ng congressional delegation ng Estados Unidos at mga lider ng iba pang bansa habang ito ay nasa Singapore.
Sa Brunei naman, kinilala ng Pangulo ang kahalagahan ng tatlong agreement sa turismo, maritime at agricultural cooperation na pinirmahan sa kanyang state visit at pakikipag-usap kay Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.
Anang Pangulo, siya at si Bolkiah “aspired for stronger bilateral cooperation and to work together to ensure that peace and security reigns” sa Southeast Asia.
Siniguro rin niya sa Sultan na patuloy na susuporta ang Pilipinas sa Brunei sa pagtatatag ng Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ Center for Climate Change.
Sa iba pang foreign trips, nakipagkita si Marcos at ang kanyang official delegation sa mga negosyante at investors sa Brunei upang ihayag ang mga oportunidad sa agri-business, renewable energy at halal development.
“We assured Bruneian businessmen that the Philippine government is committed to encourage foreign investors and players in the renewable sector and, in the process, continue to boost our country’s trajectory of economic, sustainable, and inclusive growth,” dagdag pa ng Pangulo. RNT/JGC
