CBCP sa tensyon sa WPS: ‘Nobody wants a war’

MANILA, Philippines – Idinadalangin ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) ang kapayapaan sa gitna ng lumalalang tensyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at China sa West Philippine Sea.

Sinabi ni CBCP President Bishop Pablo Virgilio David sa press conference kasunod ng 128th CBCP Plenary Assembly na ginanap sa Cagayan de Oro City, na kaisa sila sa pag-asa na malulutas ng dalawang bansa ang usapin nang walang karahasan.

“We are not political leaders, we are spiritual and moral leaders and we know that our compatriots, people in the country are getting tense. We do not want to add further fuel to the tension. Nobody wants a war. Our parents were people who experienced, they were part of a generation that were traumatized by second world war,” sabi ng Obispo.

Ayon kay Bishop David, ang CBCP ay maglalabas ng ‘oration imperata’ o obligatory prayer na nakatuon sa kapayapaan.

Sinabi ng CBCP na ang espesyal na panalangino ay ilalabas ngayong buwan.

Nauna nang nanawagan si Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher ang mga partido na sundin ang international law.

“We would encourage parties in conflict to abide by international law and to pursue those, that as a way of resolving difficulties and problems with the best interests of all involved,” saad ng Obispo.

Nakipagpulong ang top envoy ng Vatican kina Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at Department of Foreign Affairs Enrique Manalo noong nakaraang linggo bilang bahagi ng kanyang limang araw na pagbisita.

Pinangunahan din ni Gallagher ang misa sa huling araw ng taunang retreat ng CBCP na ginanap noong Huwebes sa Malaybalay, Bukidnon. Jocelyn Tabangcura-Domenden
