MANILA, Philippines – Binuntutan ng dalawang Chinese warships ang mga barko ng Philippine Navy at United States Navy sa ikalawang joint maritime patrol sa West Philippine Sea nitong Miyerkules, Enero 3.
“We follow a certain policy and guidelines. We call this as the rules of engagement, so this is our bible in ensuring that in the event of disruptive and dangerous maneuvers from any other country, we’ll be obliged to follow this one,” pahayag ni Lieutenant Commander Christopher Calvo, acting commanding officer ng BRP Ramon Alcaraz (PS-16), isang Offshore Patrol Vessel.
Sa ulat, limang beses nagpadala ng radio challenges ang BRP Alcaraz sa mga barko ng China ngunit hindi ito nakatanggap ng tugon.
Ang Chinese warships, na natukoy bilang isang guided missile destroyer Hefei (174) at frigate Huangshan (570), ay sumunod sa Alcaraz at sister ship nitong BRP Gregorio del Pilar (PS-15), at BRP Davao del Sur (LD-602), isang landing platform dock, habang naglalayag ang mga barko ng Pilipinas sa formation nang buong araw.
Hindi naman hinarangan ng mga barko ng China ang mga barko ng Pilipinas dahil kasama nito ang 7th Fleet ng US para sa joint maritime patrol.
“The joint exercise wants to ensure seamless integration of capabilities at the same testing our techniques, tactics and procedures to address evolving threats and challenges,” ani Calvo.
Ang joint maritime patrols sa pagitan ng US at Pilipinas ay nagsimula noong Nobyembre 2023. RNT/JGC
