MANILA, Philippines – Tinukoy bilang person of interest ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) si Peanut Gallery Media Network (PGMN) anchor CJ Hirro sa umano’y tangkang pangingikil kay dating House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“Yung video na ginamit na clip, siya yung nandoon. Ipapatawag namin siya. We will go through the process,” sinabi ni NBI director Atty. Melvin Matibag nitong Huwebes, Mayo 7.
“Actually, kung tutuusin, based doon sa complaint na binigay, dapat napasama na siya. But we want to exercise caution,” dagdag pa niya.
Wala pang tugon ang kampo ni Hirro kaugnay nito ngunit ngayon ay deactivate na ang social media account ng anchor.
Noong Miyerkules, inaresto ng NBI ang online media network personality Franco Mabanta sa isang entrapment operation sa tangkang pangingikil kay Romualdez.
Sinabi umano ni Mabanta na mayroon siyang video na magdidiin kay Romualdez sa flood control scandal at kung hindi magbibigay ng P350 milyon ay ilalabas ang naturang video sa PGMN.
Inaresto ang suspek matapos tanggapin ang naturang pera.
Agad namang itinanggi ni Mabanta ang alegasyon.
Nag-apply na ang NBI ng cyber warrant para suriin ang mga gadget na nakumpiska mula sa mga suspek.
Kumpiyansa naman ang abogado ni Mabanta na si Atty. Bernice Piñol-Rodriguez sa kanilang depensa sa inquest proceedings ng suspek.
“We felt very confident of our defense. We saw the fatal flaws of the complaint affidavit, the evidence that they’ve attached, and we are really confident that we built a very strong defense,” ani Pinol-Rodriguez.
Itinanggi ng NBI ang mga alegasyon na ang arrest operation ay setup at naidokumento umano ng mga imbestigador ang mga phone call, palitan ng text, at galaw ng mga suspek bago ang pag-aresto.
Lumutang na rin ang ilang mga opisyal ng pamahalaan at pribadong indibidwal sa ahensya para magsumbong ng kaparehong insidente.
“Romualdez simply did what any person exposed to the same circumstance would do — he reported the matter to the proper authorities, and the NBI acted on that report pursuant to its mandate under the law,” ayon naman kay Atty. Elaine Atienza, kampo ni Romualdez.
“Such conduct undermines legitimate journalism and damages public trust in genuine media institutions,” dagdag pa. RNT/JGC
