MANILA, Philippines – Hinigpitan ng Philippine National Police ang mga hakbang sa counter-intelligence sa lahat ng yunit nito upang maiwasan ang posibleng infiltration at espionage sa loob ng hanay ng pulisya.
Ayon kay PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., layunin ng hakbang na maprotektahan ang mahahalagang impormasyon na may kaugnayan sa peace and order at national security.
“We are taking proactive steps to ensure that all the information that includes efforts and plans relating to peace and order and national security are protected,” ani Nartatez sa isang pahayag.
“We have been doing our best to insulate the PNP from any form of foreign interference or recruitment,” dagdag pa niya.
Kasunod ito ng mga ulat na tatlong Pilipinong detenido dahil sa umano’y Chinese-linked espionage ay dating nagtrabaho sa Department of National Defense at sa Philippine Navy, at may malapit na access sa isang miyembro ng Philippine Coast Guard.
“The recent admission of Filipino nationals involved in foreign-directed espionage is a wake-up call for us to be extra-careful and to sustain the efforts in instilling professionalism in the organization that is anchored on patriotism and loyalty to our country and its people,” ani Nartatez.
Sinabi rin ng PNP chief na nakikipag-ugnayan ang pulisya sa National Security Council at iba pang intelligence agencies upang mapalakas ang information sharing.
Dagdag pa niya, nagtatag na rin ang PNP ng confidential reporting mechanism para sa mga miyembro nito.
Ipinahayag din ni Nartatez ang suporta sa paninindigan ng NSC at ng Armed Forces of the Philippines na palakasin ang mga legal at institutional framework upang maprotektahan ang pambansang seguridad laban sa mga umuusbong na banta. Santi Celario
