Cyber attack sa website ng OWWA, naudlot

MANILA, Philippines – Napigilan ng Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) ang tangkang cyber attack sa website ng Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Sa Saturday News Forum, sinabi ni DICT Undersecretary for Cybersecurity Jeff Ian Dy na napigilan ng DICT ang ilang web applications na may kinalaman sa OWWA, mula sa cyber attacks.

“There was an attack to take down OWWA [website]… but it did not materialize because we were able to counterattack it,” ani Dy.

Natunton din umano ng ahensya ang command at control center ng cyber attackers at ito ay mula sa China.

“So we’re able to detect that the attackers’ IP address came from China Unicom. So we need to coordinate with them,” dagdag pa ni Dy.

Ang China Unicom o China United Network Communications Group ay isang Chinese state-owned telecommunications company.

Sa kabila nito, nilinaw niya na posibleng hindi naman direktang sangkot sa cyber attack ang pamahalaan ng China.

“What we can say is that the threat actors were operating from within Chinese territory,” ayon pa kay Dy.

Matatandaan na noong nakaraang taon ay inatake rin ang ilang website ng pamahalaan katulad ng Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) kung saan nasapul ito ng ransomware attack na dahilan sa pagkalat ng datos nito.

Kasama rin sa na-hack ay ang mga website ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Philippine National Police (PNP), at Department of Science and Technology (DOST). RNT/JGC
