MANILA, Philippines -INILUNSAD ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang mga pangunahing programa sa Oriental Mindoro para suportahan ang mga filipinong magsasaka at palakasin ang lokal na produksyon.
Kabilang na rito ang paglulunsad ng P33.5-million Oriental Mindoro Trading and Consolidation Facility (OMTCF) at Provincial Agriculture Center (PAC), maliban pa sa pagpapalawig ng P20 per kilogram rice program sa ilalim ng Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na program.
“This is how you raise farmer incomes –not by telling them to plant more, but by making sure what they harvest actually reaches the market at the right price,” ang sinabi ni Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. sa isang kalatas.
Ang 966.75-square-meter OMTCF, pinondohan sa ilalim ng Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP), ay magsisilbi bilang ‘centralized hub’ para sa konsolidasyon, pangangalakal at distribusyon.
Mayroon itong 18 trading stalls, storage areas, washing, sorting, weighing, at packing zones, at loading bays para mabawasan ang pagkasira at tiyakin ang episyenteng galaw mula sa mga magsasaka tungo sa mga mamimili.
Inaasahan din na mapipigilan ng pasilidad ang independent farmers at mga kooperatiba mula sa pagbebenta ng ani sa mababa at hindi makatwiran na farmgate prices bunsod ng hamon sa logistics.
Ang PAC ay magbibigay ng ‘agricultural incubation, toll processing, extended aggregation, at market linkage services’ bilang suporta sa gagawin ng OMTCF pagdating sa pagtugon sa aktuwal na market demands.
Ang pasilidad ay dinebelop sa ilalim ng Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Green Growth Program.
Sinabi ni Tiu Laurel na “these facilities will help slash post-production losses, raise the income of local food producers, and eventually achieve the government’s target of food security.”
“When farmers earn more, rural economies move faster, food becomes more affordable, and food security becomes real,” aniya pa rin.
Samantala, pinalawak din ng DA ang BBM Na para sakupin ang mga pamilyang filipino sa Oriental Mindoro.
Ani DA Assistant Secretary Genevieve Velicaria-Guevarra, ang lalawigan ay ‘well-positioned’ para sa pinaigting na pagpapawalak ng P20 rice program.
“With the main harvest season coming in March, our latest inventory shows sufficient palay stocks in NFA warehouses that can be released, allowing the NFA to continuously buy palay at a fair price from our farmers,” anito.
Inaasahan naman ng DA na ang BBM Na program ay mapakikinabangan ng 70,000 pamilya sa Mindoro. Kris Jose
