MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ni Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman na ang Pilipinas, bagama’t mayroon lamang 5.6% economic growth para sa buong 2024 o mas mababa kaysa sa target ng pamahalaan, ay nananatili pa ring nakapwesto bilang isa sa “fastest-growing” sa ekonomiya sa Asia Pacific region.
Ang pahayag na ito ng Kalihim ay kasunod ng pinakabagong ulat ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) na nagpapakita na ang Philippine economic growth ay pumalo sa 5.2% sa fourth quarter ng 2024, nagresulta ng 5.6% para sa full-year growth.
“While our target for 2024 is 6 to 6.5 percent, the results still put the Philippines among the fastest-growing economies in the Asia Pacific region, outpacing many of our ASEAN neighbors, and still propelling our desired economic transformation,” aniya pa rin.
Binigyang-diin pa rin nito na naharap sa economic challenges ang bansa noong nakaraang taon, kabilang na ang record-breaking typhoon season, na may anim na magkakasunod na bagyo na tumama sa pagitan ng pagtatapos ng Oktubre at sa kalagitnaan ng Nobyembre.
Ang pananalasa aniya ng mga bagyo sa fourth quarter ng 2024 “greatly affected the economy.”
“The fact that we still hit 5.6 percent in spite of all these storms shows that our formula for growth is working,” ang sinabi ni Pangandaman.
Si Pangandaman, chairman ng Development Budget Coordination Committee, ay nagpahayag na ang Build Better More Program ay gumagana, bilang konstruksyon, pinakamalaking contributor kapwa sa economic growth para sa fourth quarter na mayroong 7.8% at sa buong taon ng 2024 na mayroon namang 10.3%.
Aniya pa rin, mananatili namang nakatuon ang gobyerno upang masiguro na “it is on track” sa Agenda for Prosperity nito.
“For the upcoming years, we remain dedicated to implementing priority programs and strategies aligned with our 8-Point Socioeconomic Agenda and the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028. Through these efforts, we anticipate fostering a favorable and resilient macroeconomic environment that will sustain our progress toward growth in the medium term,” ang winika ng Kalihim.
“Moving forward, we will ensure that all the necessary support is in place to further boost our GDP growth and pursue our Agenda for Prosperity,” patuloy ni Pangandaman.
Itutulak naman ito ng DBM para sa mas ‘efficient budget utilization’ na nakitaan ng positibong resulta matapos ang Government’s Final Consumption Expenditure na nakapagtala ng pinakamataas na year-on-year growth rate na 9.7%. Kris Jose
