MANILA, Philippines – Sinabi ni Health Secretary Jose “Brix” Pujalte Jr. nitong Huwebes, Agosto 6, na handa itong magpasa ng kaukulang mga dokumento kaugnay sa imbestigasyon sa umano’y biglaang suspensyon ng pagbili ng gamot sa tuberculosis at iba pang tuberculosis-related commodities.
Pinasinungalingan ni Pujalte ang mga alegasyon at sinabing ang pagsusuri ay layon na masigurong ang “procurement process is responsive to the needs of tuberculosis patients, transparent, and compliant with the law.”
“Wala pa tayong 30 days sa posisyon, pero gusto agad pabilisin ang pag-apruba sa P3 billion na TB procurement nang walang malalimang pagsusuri. Three billion pesos po ’yan ng taumbayan, hindi ’yan basta-basta. Natuto na dapat tayo sa nangyari noon sa Pharmally. Buhay ng tao ang nakataya rito,” ani Pujalte.
Dagdag pa niya, nirerespeto nito ang mandato at proseso ng Office of the Ombudsman.
Matatandaan na hiniling ng mga health advocate at health worker sa Ombudsman na tanggalin si Pujalte dahil sa umano’y suspensyon ng pagbili ng TB drugs at related commodities.
Sa liham kay Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, sinabi ng health advocates na ang desisyon ni Pujalte na suspendihin ang procurement para sa tuberculosis program ay katumbas ng grave misconduct, grave abuse of authority at conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, kung saan nagbibigay ito ng dahilan para alisin siya sa opisina.
“If I did, they would say ‘Ba’t ang bilis mo pinirmahan yan.’ Probably complicit. I don’t want that impression,” sinabi naman ni Pujalte.
“I would rather think that the best thing is to study something of such enormous amount and in following the process, I’m able to procure medicines that are good,” dagdag pa niya. RNT/JGC
