MANILA, Philippines – Nagbabala ang Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at Department of Health (DOH) sa publiko sa pagbili ng mga hindi rehistrado at pekeng health products kabilang ang supplements, cosmetics, at medical devices, na maaaring magresulta sa mga komplikasyon sa kalusugan.
Iginiit ni FDA Director General Atty. Paolo Teston na ang mga produktong hindi nairehistro sa FDA ay hindi nasuri ng mga scientist at evaluators ng pamahalaan.
Sa ilalim ng Republic Act No. 9711, ang lahat ng health products na ibinibenta sa Pilipinas ay dapat na rehistrado sa FDA.
Inabisuhan ni Teston ang mga consumer na alamin sa online portal ng ahensya bago bumili ng mga produkto.
“The FDA portal, on the FDA website, lets you type in a product’s name to verify if it is registered. The new portal also shows any advisories related to that product,” pahayag ni Teston.
Idinagdag pa na ang mga pekeng produkto na karaniwan online, ay kapansin-pansin dahil sa murang halaga, mispelled labels at packaging na hindi maiintindihan ng mga Filipino.
Samantala, nagbabala naman si DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa na ang “herbal” o supplement products ay hindi awtomatikong ligtas dahil ang mga unapproved item ay maaari pa ring magtaglay ng mga active ingredients na makakaapekto sa maintenance medicines.
“People often assume herbal products are safe, but we had cases where those taking supposedly herbal remedies also used anti-hypertensive drugs, which can interact with other medicines. This may reduce the effectiveness of your anti-hypertensive and cause your blood pressure to rise,” pahayag ni Herbosa. RNT/JGC
