MANILA, Philippines – Magpapatuloy ang kaso ng mga nawawalang sabungero kahit na hindi pa naaaresto o sumusuko ang gaming tycoon na si Charlie “Atong” Ang, ayon sa Department of Justice (DOJ).
Sa news forum nitong Sabado, Enero 17, ipinaliwanag ni DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez na ang paglilitis ay magpapatuloy bilang respeto sa iba pang respondents na sumuko na at naaresto na ng mga awtoridad.
”The case will really proceed even without Mr. Atong Ang with respect to those accused who have been arrested. The court has jurisdiction over those who have been arrested, over those who surrendered themselves and trial can commence with respect to them,” paliwanag ni Martinez.
“And if they submit evidence that can be used against any of the other accused in that case, then it can be used. That’s up to the prosecution, the discretion of the prosecution to use, and for the court to assess,” ipinunto pa nito.
Sa kasalukuyan ay mayroong pitong sibilyan at 10 pulis ang nasa restrictive custody na sa kaso ng nawawalang mga sabungero.
Ipinaliwanag ni Martinez na mayroong kabuuang 18 akusadong personalidad ngunit isa na lamang ang hindi pa natutunton, at “the case will proceed against the 17 others.”
“That won’t stop. If there is evidence that the accused or the prosecution submits, it can still be used,” ani Martinez.
