MANILA, Philippines — Hinimok ni Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez ang transport group na Manibela na ibigay ang mga pangalan ng traffic enforcers na tumatanggap ng suhol mula sa mga jeepney driver.
“I’m telling Manibela, I’m calling on them to give us the names of the enforcers, the names of the LTO government employees who are actually accepting this kind of bribery. We will fire them,” ani Lopez sa Inquirer.
Hinimok din niya ang mga jeepney driver na huwag magbigay ng suhol. “I hope they don’t bribe anymore. They shouldn’t do that because that’s also against the law.”
Sinabi rin niya na nakipag-ugnayan siya kay LTO chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao upang tugunan ang alegasyon ng korapsyon at pagkaantala sa pag-isyu ng mga dokumento at renewal ng franchise ng mga jeepney operator at driver.
“What we should remember is that the government’s policy is always that, as long as your vehicle is roadworthy, whether traditional or modern, we need to register it. If it’s not roadworthy, we’ll be patient,” dagdag ni Lopez.
Nagsasagawa ng tatlong-araw na nationwide strike ang Manibela bilang protesta sa diumano’y pang-aabuso sa mga driver, kabilang ang “unjust demerit point system, ang non-renewal ng franchises at ang entrenched ‘payola culture’ sa loob ng mga ahensya ng transportasyon.” Santi Celario
