MANILA, Philippines – Naka-full alert ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para sa Tropical Storm Nando, na maaaring tumindi at maging “super typhoon” sa susunod na linggo, at nag handa ng higit sa 2.6 milyong food packs sa buong bansa para sa mga maaapektuhan komunidad.
Ayon kay DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, naka-preposition na ang mga food packs sa iba’t ibang bodega sa buong bansa.
“Our goal is to make sure that assistance reaches the people at the soonest possible time. Prepositioning these resources allows us to respond without delay,” saad ni Dumlao.
“Local government units have also been tapped to coordinate with our DSWD field offices for possible augmentation requests,” dagdag niya.
Ayon sa DSWD, mahigit P2.27 milyong halaga ng food packs at non-food items ang naibigay sa mga residenteng apektado ng Tropical Depression Mirasol sa Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 2 (Cagayan Valley), 3 (Central Luzon), 5 (Bicol Region), 6 (Western Visayas), at Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Nauna rito, iniulat ng state weather bureau na maaaring lumakas si Nando bilang isang super typhoon sa Lunes, Setyembre 22, bago ito makarating sa Babuyan Islands.
Sinabi ng Pagasa na ang bagyo ay maaaring dumaan malapit o mag-landfall sa Babuyan Islands sa pagitan ng Lunes ng hapon hanggang Martes ng umaga, bago lumabas sa Philippine area of responsibility pagsapit ng Martes ng tanghali o hapon. RNT/MND
