Dumalo sa EDSA protest umabot sa 11,000; PNP naka-full alert

MANILA, Philippines – Umabot na sa tinatayang 11,000 ang mga nagtipon sa protesta malapit sa People Power Monument sa EDSA, Quezon City, bandang alas-11 ng umaga nitong Martes, dahilan upang isailalim sa full alert ang ilang pangunahing yunit ng Philippine National Police (PNP).

Batay sa pagtataya ng pulisya na iniulat ng Super Radyo dzBB, lumobo sa 11,000 ang bilang ng mga kalahok siyam na oras matapos magsimulang magtipon ang mga ito.

Mahigit 6,000 pulis ang ipinakalat upang tiyakin ang seguridad at mapanatili ang kaayusan sa lugar.

Ayon kay PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., isinailalim sa full alert ang National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Central Luzon Police, Calabarzon Police, national support units, at mga tanggapan sa Camp Crame.

Sa kabila ng malakas na ulan nitong umaga, nanatili sa kanilang puwesto ang mga pulis upang magbigay ng seguridad sa mga raliyista at motorista.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) na inatasan nito ang PNP, sa pakikipag-ugnayan sa concerned local government unit, na pairalin ang maximum tolerance at ipatupad ang angkop na security at traffic management measures.

“In connection with the Iglesia ni Cristo rally along EDSA, the DILG has directed the Philippine National Police (PNP), in close coordination with the concerned local government unit, to exercise maximum tolerance and implement appropriate security and traffic management measures to help ensure that the activity remains peaceful, orderly, and safe for all,” ayon sa DILG.

“The DILG calls on all participants and stakeholders to exercise their rights responsibly, uphold the rule of law, and cooperate with authorities throughout the activity. The Department remains committed to protecting public safety while upholding the constitutional freedoms of every Filipino,” dagdag nito.

Samantala, inanunsyo ng Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang pagsasara ng EDSA Ortigas Service Road (northbound), EDSA Ortigas Flyover (northbound at southbound), at White Plains Avenue sa magkabilang direksyon.

Iniulat din ng MMDA ang mabagal na daloy ng trapiko sa EDSA southbound mula Scout Borromeo hanggang Ortigas split at northbound mula Guadalupe hanggang White Plains matapos masakop ng mga sasakyan ng mga raliyista ang isang lane.
