MANILA, Philippines – Sang-ayon si Senador Erwin Tulfo sa mungkahi ni Pangulong Marcos na muling ilaan ang P36 bilyon na orihinal na inilaan bilang flood control funds sa mga programa ng Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) sa pagsugpo sa kahirapan.
“Instead of DPWH officials, contractors, and politicians pocketing these public funds, I would rather have it allocated for the poor and marginalized,” ani Senator Tulfo.
“If the funds are with DSWD, it will go directly to the people and not go through the hands of politicians, or even DPWH officials and contractors,” ayon sa mambabatas na nagsilbi din bilang DSWD secretary sa ilalim ng Marcos administration.
Itinuring ni Tulfo na dapat gamitin ang pera para matulungan ang mga Pilipinong naghihirap at nangangailangan ng tulong sa kabuhayan.
Nauna nang inihayag ni Pangulong Marcos na ang flood control funds ay ire-redirect sa DSWD Poverty Alleviation programs gaya ng (Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation) AICS at Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), at iba pa.
Ang AICS ay isang programa ng DSWD na naglalayong suportahan ang mga mahihirap at disenfranchised na mga Pilipino pagdating sa kanilang emergency na pangangailangan para sa gamot, ospital, burol, at tulong sa transportasyon.
Samantala, ang SLP ay nagbibigay ng P15,000 sa mga komunidad upang makapagtatag sila ng sarili nilang mga negosyong nagbibigay ng kita. Ang programang ito ay iminungkahi ni Tulfo na isasagawa sa pamamagitan ng Senate Bill No. 766.
“I believe if many Filipinos who are in dire need of livelihood assistance will be given SLP by the DSWD, it would be a great start for them to finally reach their goal to have their own enterprise and eventually contribute to the economy,” binigyang-diin ng senador.
“I think it will be a money well-spent if the DSWD will be able to provide business capital for Filipinos in need,” dagdag ni Tulfo, tagapangulo ng Senate Committee on Social justice, Welfare, and Rural Development. RNT/MND
