MONTREAL, Canada – Nasa 11 indibidwal ang patay matapos araruhin ng driver ang mga tao sa isang street festival nitong Sabado sa Canadian city ng Vancouver, ayon sa local police.
Nauna nang kinumpirma ng Vancouver Police na siyam na indibidwal ang nasawi matapos sagasaan ng isang lalaki ang mga tao sa Lapu Lapu Festival. Sa isang update, nilinaw ng mga awtoridad na 11 ang patay sa insidente.
“A number of people have been killed and multiple others are injured,” base sa mga pulis. “The driver is in custody.”
Naganap ang insidente sa pagtitipon ng mga miyembro ng Filipino community upang ipagdiwang ang Lapu Lapu Day, ayon kay Vancouver mayor Ken Sim sa X.
Tumapat ang festival, gumugunita sa Filipino anti-colonial leader mula sa 16th century, ngayong taon sa weekend bago ang eleksyon sa Canada.
“Our thoughts are with all those affected and with Vancouver’s Filipino community during this incredibly difficult time,” ani Sim.
Sinabi ng mga pulis na naganap ang insidente makalipas ang alas-8 ng umaga nitong Sabado (0300 GMT Sunday) sa Sunset on Fraser neighborhood sa lungsod.
“A lone suspect, subject male with one vehicle, drove through a crowded community event occurring near here. That male was taken into custody at the scene by the crowd. It was a Filipino community event,” pahayag ni Vancouver Police interim chief Steve Rai sa ulat.
“It would be unfair for me to speculate on exact numbers, as the victims were taken to multiple hospitals in the region,” dagdag niya.
