CAMARINES SUR, Philippines – Isang sunog ang sumiklab nitong Miyerkules ng hapon at tinupok ang Gabaldon Building ng Iriga City Central School, na naging dahilan upang hindi magamit ang ilang silid-aralan para sa mga mag-aaral na bumalik sa paaralan.
Sinabi ni Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Bicol regional director Senior Supt. Achilles Santiago, nagsimula ang sunog dakong alas-5:30 ng hapon sa isa sa mga silid-aralan ng gusali ng Gabaldon, ilang sandali matapos makauwi ang mga estudyante.
“The possible cause of the fire was an overheated ceiling fan left running in one of the rooms. The structure, made of old and light materials, was quickly engulfed in flames, which spread to nearby classrooms,” saad ni Santiago.
Aniya, umabot sa ikatlong alarma ang sunog, dahilan upang rumesponde ang mga fire truck mula sa mga karatig bayan ng Baao, Nabua, Bato, Buhi, at Pili.
“It was declared under control at around 6:45 p.m. and was completely put out by around 7 p.m.,” dagdag ni Santiago.
Sinabi niya na ang lahat ng mga silid-aralan ay dapat na nilagyan ng mga indibidwal na circuit breaker na maaaring patayin ng mga guro pagkatapos ng oras ng klase upang maiwasan ang mga ganitong insidente sa kuryente.
“I recommended to the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) that all schools, especially those designated as evacuation centers, be equipped with fire hydrants to ensure an accessible water supply in case of fire emergencies,” aniya. RNT/MND
