MANILA, Philippines – Naitala ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ang mas tumaas na ground deformation sa Bulkang Kanlaon.
Sa abiso nitong Sabado ng hapon, Enero 11, mula Biyernes ay nakararanas ng inflation o swelling ang gitna hanggang sa taas na bahagi ng eastern edifice ng bulkan.
Nagkaroon din ng ‘sharp increase’ sa inflationary tilt bandang 7:20 ng gabi ng Biyernes, na nangangahulugan ng matinding pressure sa taas na bahagi ng edifice.
Nakapagtala rin ng inflation activities sa southeastern flank at deflation activities sa western flank.
Samantala, nasa average na 5,763 tonnes kada araw ang sulfur dioxide emissions hanggang nitong Biyernes, malapit sa average emissions mula nang pumutok ang bulkan noong Hunyo 3, 2024.
“The overall parameters may indicate that the shallow magma conduit of the volcano is undergoing pressurization that may lead to an eruption broadly similar to the 9 December 2024 event,” saad sa pahayag.
“Local government units and DRRM councils must also vigilantly monitor weather conditions in case heavy rainfall occurs and generates lahars and sediment-laden streamflows in channels draining the southern flanks of the volcano,” pagpapatuloy ng PHIVOLCS.
