MANILA, Philippines – Nanawagan ang isang anti-corruption group nitong Huwebes, Hulyo 3 para sa transparency at good governance sa serbisyo publiko sa kabila ng mga isyu sa impeachment ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
Sa kalatas, sinabi ng Democracy Watch Philippines (DemWatch) na nag-convene ang mga student leader mula sa 16 unibersidad at iba pang youth-led non-government organizations sa Metro Manila para ipanawagan ang good governance at himukin ang mga kabataan na makilahok sa civic engagement at political participation.
“Transparency isn’t just a buzzword—it’s the frontline of accountability. If we don’t know what our leaders are doing, how can we hold them responsible? If public service is cloaked in secrecy, can we still call it democratic?” saad sa press release ni DemWatch convenor Lloyd Ian Zaragoza.
“We must understand who these politicians are and what they are scared of. It’s actually the voters. It’s us, the people, who hold the power to elect and are empowered to hold them accountable,” dagdag pa.
Matatandaan na inimpeach ng Kamara si Duterte noong Pebrero 5 sa mahigit 200 mambabatas na nag-endorso ng beripikadong reklamo laban sa Bise Presidente, na agad naipadala sa Senado para sa impeachment trial.
Sa kabila nito, ang Senado na nagsisilbing impeachment court, ay bumoto noong Hunyo 10 para ibalik sa Kamara ang Articles of Impeachment laban kay Duterte nang hindi ibinabasura ang kaso.
Naghain si Duterte ng “not guilty” plea sa
verified impeachment complaint filed laban sa kanya na tinawag niyang isa lamang “scrap of paper.”
Samantala, ipinunto ni Zaragoza na ang mga isyung bumabalot sa impeachment case ay dahil sa misinformation.
Tinukoy niya ang pagpapalakas sa mga kabataan bilang susunod na henerasyon ng mga botante para itaas ang kamalayan sa mga social issue at maglagay ng public pressure sa mga lider upang maglingkod nang tapat.
“You are not a silent generation. You are asking the hard questions. You are calling out injustice. You are not here to inherit a broken system—you are here to help fix it,” ani Zaragoza. RNT/JGC
