MANILA, Philippines – Inaasahang magtatapos ang southwest monsoon o habagat sa unang linggo ng Oktubre, ayon sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Ayon kay weather specialist Leanne Loreto, susundan ito ng transition period bago magsimula ang northeast monsoon o amihan na posibleng dumating sa huling bahagi ng buwan.
“Pagtapos ng habagat ay magsisimula na yung transition period towards the amihan or northeast monsoon. Itong northeast monsoon ay maaaring magsimula o yung onset nito sa pangalawang bahagi ng buwan ng Oktubre,” ani Loreto.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Loreto na maaaring hindi gaanong malamig ang temperatura dahil sa umiiral na El Niño.
“When we have the Amihan, the air is generally dry and cool. However, since we are currently experiencing El Niño, temperatures may not be as cold as those we experienced in previous years,” ani Loreto.
Isa hanggang dalawang tropical cyclone naman ang maaaring mabuo o pumasok sa Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) ngayong Oktubre. Batay sa historical data, mas mataas ang posibilidad na mag-landfall ang mga ito sa Luzon o Visayas.
Maaari ring makaapekto sa bansa ngayong buwan ang Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), easterlies at low pressure areas.
Ayon sa PAGASA, maaaring maapektuhan ng kasalukuyang El Niño ang dalas at kilos ng mga weather system at tropical cyclone. RNT/MDS
