MANILA, Philippines – Umaasa si House justice panel chairperson Gerville Luistro na hindi maaapektuhan ng plano ni Vice President Sara Duterte na tumakbo bilang Pangulo sa 2028 ang magiging boto ng mga mambabatas sa apat na impeachment complaints laban sa kanya.
Ginawa ni Luistro ang pahayag isang araw matapos ihayag ng Bise Presidente ang kanyang plano sa pagtakbo sa pagkapangulo, kasunod ang paghahain ng ikaapat na impeachment complaint nitong Huwebes ng gabi.
“I hope it will not affect. Kasi sana ma-realize ng mga members ng (Because we hope that the members of the) justice committee that this is a constitutional duty that we really have to face,” ani Luistro sa isang ulat nitong Huwebes.
“This is not a question of gusto ba namin o ayaw namin (whether we like it or not). This is not a question of pro-administration ba kami o pro-Duterte ba kami (whether we are pro-administration or pro-Duterte),” dagdag niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Luistro na ang pagboto sa sufficiency ng mga impeachment complaint ay isang constitutional duty ng mga miyembro ng House justice committee at ng buong Kamara kapag inaprubahan o tinanggihan ang committee report.
Ayon naman kay House Deputy Speaker at La Union Rep. Paolo Ortega V, hindi nangangahulugan ang presidential bid ng Bise Presidente na ligtas na siya sa imbestigasyon.
“Let us be clear – running for President does not erase serious questions about asset disclosures and public funds. The timing speaks for itself,” ani Ortega.
“Oversight is a constitutional duty. You cannot convert audit trails into campaign slogans. The impeachment process exists precisely to examine these questions,” dagdag niya.
“The Constitution is not suspended because someone declares candidacy. If there is nothing to hide, transparency should not be feared,” ani Ortega.
Sinabi rin ni House human rights panel chairperson at Manila Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. na hindi free pass ang presidential bid ng Bise Presidente.
“Her announcement would open Pandora’s box. It places the burden on the Vice President to address questions raised against her, as the public weighs what kind of leadership and direction she offers,” ani Abante.
“It is up to her to be able to explain to the Filipino people,” dagdag niya.
Inendorso nina Ortega at Abante ang ikaapat na impeachment complaint na nag-aakusa kay Duterte ng betrayal of public trust, graft and corruption, kabilang ang umano’y maling paggamit ng P612.5 milyon confidential funds at ang umano’y pagbabanta laban kay Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. at sa kanyang pamilya sa isang livestreamed briefing noong Nobyembre 2024.
Sa ilalim ng House rules, may 10 session days si Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III upang maisama ang impeachment complaints sa plenary agenda.
Kapag nairefer ito sa House justice panel, itinuturing nang initiated ang impeachment process at magkakabisa ang one-year ban sa paghahain ng panibagong impeachment complaint. RNT
