MANILA, Philippines – Nakikipag-ugnayan ang pamahalaan ng Pilipinas sa Lebanese authorities upang makamit ang hustisya para sa dalawang overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) na na-hostage at napatay ng kanilang employer sa Beirut.
Sa online briefing nitong Huwebes, sinabi ni Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac na binaril at napatay ang dalawang domestic workers noong Abril 15 habang nagsasagawa ng rescue operation ang pulisya.
“There was a hostage-taking incident involving our two compatriots. They are two domestic workers working in a household in Beirut, Lebanon, and unfortunately, the hostage-taking incident, the police were there, but the hostage-taking incident did not successfully rescue our two compatriots,” anang kalihim.
Ayon kay Cacdac, binaril ng hostage-taker ang mga biktima at ito ay kinilalang kanilang employer.
“So right now, our legal retainer is working closely with the Lebanese prosecution, prosecutor, in terms of the ongoing investigation, which we hope will lead to an indictment, charging of the perpetrator, the gunman,” aniya pa.
Nilinaw niya na hindi konektado ang insidente sa mas malawak na sigalot sa Middle East kundi nagmula sa marahas na pangyayari sa loob ng bahay ng employer.
Sinabi ni Cacdac na hinihintay ng pamahalaan ang resulta ng imbestigasyon, kabilang ang autopsy findings, bago maiuwi sa bansa ang mga labi ng mga biktima.
Idinagdag niya na bumisita na sa mga pamilya ng mga nasawi sina Undersecretaries Bernard Olalia at Felicitas Bay, habang personal niyang ipinaabot ang pakikiramay at suporta sa ngalan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr..
“May autopsiya tayong isinusulong doon para malaman yung nangyari dun sa insidente. We have been in touch with the families, it’s also our President’s directive to assure them of our assistance. At saka, yan nga, yung commitment natin na we will seek justice for our two compatriots, two OFWs na nasawi, na pinaslang,” dagdag pa ni Cacdac. Dave Baluyot
