MANILA, Philippines – Sinimulan na ng House Committee on Public Order and Safety at House Committee on Games and Amusement ang motu proprio inquiry nito kaugnay sa mga krimen na iniuugnay sa operasyon ng illegal Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGO).
Ang imbestigasyon ng Kamara ay alinsunud sa direktiba ni House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
“We cannot allow these rogue POGO operators to persist. It is imperative that we identify and unmask the masterminds and protectors behind these operations so they can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” pahayag ni Romualdez.
Sinabi ni Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez na ilan sa mga krimen na iniuugnay sa POGO ay homicide, human trafficking, torture, prostitution, forcible abduction, kidnapping, serious illegal detention, robbery, extortion, drug trafficking, cybercrime, money laundering at tax evasion.
“These are heinous crimes and serious human rights violations that affect both our citizens and the foreign workers who are forced to work at these illegal POGOs under cruel and inhumane conditions,” ani Fernandez.
Base sa datos ay may 300 illegal POGO na nag ooperate sa bansa na may empleyado na 40,000 undocumented workers, maliban sa mga Chinese ay kinabibilangan din ito ng ibang
foreign nationals mula sa Vietnam at Malaysia.
Sa pagdinig ng Kamara ay ipinakita ng Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission ang isang video footage na nagpapakita ng pang aabuso sa mga mangagawa ng POGO sa Pampanga.
Umapela ang komite sa mga local government units (LGUs) na magkaroon ng mahigpit na monitoring sa aktibidad ng mga POGO sa kanilang lugar.
