MANILA, Philippines – Pansamantalang ititigil ang impeachment trial ni Vice President Sara Duterte simula bukas, Miyerkules, Oktubre 14, upang bigyan ng oras ang prosecution na maghain ng kanilang formal offer of evidence, ayon kay Senate Impeachment Clerk of Court Atty. Renato Bantug.
Sa text message sa media nitong Lunes, ng gabi kinumpirma ni Bantug ang pagsuspinde.
“No trial [on Wednesday],” aniya.
Nitong Lunes, na-excuse na ang huling saksi ng prosecution para sa Article II ng impeachment complaint na tumutukoy sa umano’y hindi maipaliwanag na yaman ni Duterte.
Kasunod nito, inanunsyo ni presiding officer Senate President Francis Escudero ang natanggap nilang manifestation mula sa prosecution na hindi na itutuloy ang huling artikulo na may kinalaman sa umano’y panunuhol ni Duterte sa mga opisyal ng Department of Education.
Ipinaliwanag ni Bantug na ang layunin ng pag-pause ay para makapaghain ang prosecution ng kanilang formal offer of evidence, makapaghain naman ng comment ang depensa sa loob ng ilang araw mula sa pagkatanggap, at para makapagdesisyon na rin ang impeachment court o ang presiding officer sa nasabing offer.
“There will indeed be a pause in the trial to allow the prosecution to file its formal offer of evidence, the respondent to file a comment within X number of days from receipt, and the [impeachment court/presiding officer] to rule on the offer,” sabi ni Bantug.
Ayon naman kay Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, sa Nobyembre 9 na magsisimula ang pagpapakita ng mga exhibit ng depensa. Ernie Reyes
