MANILA, Philippines- Sa paghahanda ng bansa para sa bagong school year, hinimok ng grupo ng education workers ang pamahalaan na suspendihin ang implementasyon ng revised Kindergarten to Grade 10 curriculum, kilala bilang MATATAG Curriculum.
“The new school year brings new burdens to our teachers and students, while old problems in our education system persist,” pahayag ng Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT).
Inihayag din ng grupo ang “deep concern” sa pagbubukas ng bagong school year ngayong Hulyo 29, kung saan mahaharap umano ang mga kabataan, guro, at mga magulang sa “new burdens” dahil sa umano’y pagpalya ng gobyerno na resolbahin ang mga hamon sa sistema ng edukasyon.
“The implementation of the MATATAG program will only add to the workload of teachers and students, instead of addressing the real issues in our education,” anang ACT.
“The MATATAG curriculum will result in a heavier workload for teachers, with a 30 percent increase in their teaching load,” dagdag nito.
Binanggit din ng grupo na mula sa nakaraang anim na teaching loads, magkakaroon na ang mga guro ng walo.
“This means more students and classes to focus on, more outputs to check, and more grades to compute,” sabi ng ACT.
Giit pa ng ACT, mapatatagal din ng implementasyon ng MATATAG Curriculum ang kanilang pananatili sa paaralan.
“There are extended class hours for children, which may last until 8 p.m. or later in some schools,” anito. “This gambles with the well-being and safety of our students,” dagdag ng grupo.
Kasunod ng pagbayo ng typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon na nagresulta sa pagkaantala ng muling pagbubukas ng mahigit 900 paaralan ngayong Hulyo 29, sinabi ng ACT na dapat magpatupad ang pamahalaan ng “immediate and concrete solutions.”
“Our education system, already battered by calamities and chronic neglect, will inevitably face a disastrous school opening due to the government’s failure to address massive shortages and its rushed implementation of ill-conceived programs like the MATATAG curriculum,” ayon sa ACT.
Binatikos din ng grupo ang MATATAG Curriculum dahil ito ay “not evidence-based nor grounded in classroom realities.”
Ipinakilala ang MATATAG Curriculum, ang revised curriculum para sa Kindergarten hanggang Grade 10 sa ilalim ng K to 12 Program, sa ilalim ni Vice President at dating DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte.
Ipatutupad ang kurikulum, idinisenyo upang tutukan ang foundational skills, simula ngayong School Year (SY) 2024-2025 at sasaklawin ang Kindergarten, Grades 1, 4, at 7. RNT/SA
