MANILA, Philippines – Inanunsyo ng US Department of Justice ang pagkakaaresto sa Pilipinas ng isa sa most wanted fraudsters na tinukoy ng Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Ang puganteng si Herbert Leon Kimble ay dumating sa Estados Unidos matapos maaresto ng Fugitive Search Unit ng Philippine Bureau of Immigration sa casino sa Pasig City.
Ayon sa US DOJ, inabot ng ilang buwan ang mga immigration agent sa pag-track sa kinaroroonan ni Kimble bago tuluyang maaresto ito.
Sa rekord ng FBI, nakita na noong Abril 4, 2019 ay naghain ng guilty plea si Kimble sa US District Court for the District of South Carolina, Columbia Division, sa conspiracy charges na may kaugnayan sa defrauding sa Estados Unidos, pagsasagawa ng false claims sa federal agency, mail fraud, wire fraud, healthcare fraud, at pag-aalok ng kickback at panunuhol na may kaugnayan sa naturang modus.
Sa kabila nito ay bigong humarap si Kimble sa kanyang nakatakdang sentencing hearing noong Agosto 27, 2024.
Dito na nag-isyu ng arrest warrant ang mga awtoridad sa kaparehong araw matapos bigong humarap.
Inanunsyo ni US Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche na ang pag-aresto kay Kimble, na inakusahan sa mahigit $1.2 bilyong Medicare fraud, ay isa sa pinakamalaking kaso ng healthcare fraud na kanilang napanagot sa Amerika.
Umabot sa reward na $150,000 ang inialok sa makapagbibigay ng impormasyon sa ikaaaresto ni Kimble.
“Fleeing the United States does not mean you can flee justice. Instead of facing accountability for his $1.2 billion Medicare fraud crimes in the United States, Kimble fled to the Philippines hoping to escape justice. That plan failed. Under President Trump’s leadership, the FBI has now apprehended two fraudsters from its recently unveiled Most Wanted Fraudsters list in just two weeks, with more to come,” saad sa pahayag ni Blanche.
