MANILA, Philippines – Magkatuwang ang Department of Public Works and Highways at Department of Transportation sa rehabilitasyon ng EDSA upang maging mas ligtas at accessible para sa mga pedestrian at commuters, lalo na sa mga mahihinang sektor.
Sa inspeksyon mula Ayala sa Makati hanggang Roxas Blvd. sa Pasay, nagkasundo sina DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon at DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez na agad ipatupad ang mga panandaliang hakbang tulad ng pagpapalapad ng pedestrian lanes, paglikha ng shared bike lanes, pagkukumpuni ng mga bus stops at waiting sheds, at pagtanggal ng mga sagabal sa ruta ng mga commuter.
“If you drive EDSA every day, it’s really stressful if you’re a commuter. We really need to fix this [EDSA] once and for all, our President said,” ani Dizon.
“There are many people complaining but nothing is happening, so the President said, he ordered us… to make EDSA pedestrian-friendly and commuter-friendly,” dagdag pa niya.
Binigyang-diin ni Lopez ang hirap ng mga commuters, “I feel like a warrior — it’s very difficult. That’s why President Marcos has already ordered that we solve this so that EDSA becomes commuter-centric and pedestrian-friendly.”
