MANILA, Philippines – Patuloy na bumababa ang lebel ng tubig sa Angat Dam dahil sa kakulangan sa pag-ulan ayon sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) nitong Linggo, Hunyo 21.
Nakapagtala lamang ang PAGASA ng 120 millimeters ng ulan sa buong bansa hanggang noong Hunyo 20, o kalahati lamang ng projected rainfall para sa buong buwan.
“The critical level we are monitoring at Angat is 160 meters. This is the water level where a deficiency in water supply may already occur,” sinabi ni PAGASA weather specialist Jofren Habaluyas.
Nauna nang nagdeklara ng state of calamity ang Puerto Galera sa Oriental Mindoro dahil sa kakulangan sa tubig.
Nasa 11 sa 13 barangay sa naturang bayan ang apektado ng krisis sa tubig.
“Due to El Niño and the increasing number of consumers, we have once again encountered problems with our water supply,” ayon naman kay Puerto Galera Vice Mayor Rocky Ilagan.
Umaasa ang National Water Resources Board (NWRB) na hindi haharapin ng Metro Manila ang kaparehong sitwasyon sa Puerto Galera.
Sa ngayon ay hindi prayoridad ang pagsusuplay ng tubig sa mga sakahan para makatipid sa suplay ng tubig.
Iniinspeksyon din ng NWRB ang standby deep wells maging ang karagdagan water sources at pinag-aaralan ang alternative supply options, kabilang ang Laguna de Bay at water treatment facilities sa Parañaque at Cavite.
Naghahanda rin ang water concessionaires ng kanilang contingency measures sa oras ng shortage.
“We have done a lot over the years so that we are not too dependent on Angat Dam. Maynilad already has three water treatment plants sourcing water from Laguna Lake,” sinabi ni Jennifer Rufo, head and assistant vice president for corporate communications ng Maynilad Water Services, Inc.
“For now, our East Zone customers and Rizal continue to have 24/7 water service. We will strive to maintain that experience. Hopefully, until the fourth quarter of this year, supply will remain sufficient for our needs,” ayon naman kay Raymond Maymay, corporate communications manager ng Manila Water Company, Inc. RNT/JGC
