Maria Amifaith Fider-Reyes pinangalanang CHR commissioner

MANILA, Philippines- Itinalaga ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. si Judge Maria Amifaith S. Fider-Reyes bilang commissioner ng Commission on Human Rights (CHR).

Itinalaga si Fider-Reyes s kanyang posisyon noong November 13, mayroong formal transmission sa komisyon, araw ng Biyernes, November 15. Magsisilbi si Fider-Reyes ng hanggang May 2029.

Ang pagkakatalaga kay Fider-Reyes ang kumumpleto sa roster ng Commission en banc (CEB), binubuo ng chairperson at apat na commissioner.

Sinabi ng CHR, si Fider-Reyes bilang pangatlong babae na miyembro ng pang-anim na CEB, mapalalakas niya ang ‘gender representation’ at mapagtitibay ang magkakaibang kadalubhasaan na gabay sa trabaho sa komisyon.

“Her appointment represents a pivotal milestone in fulfilling the leadership structure crucial to CHR’s mandate of upholding and advancing human rights in the Philippines,” ayon sa kalatas ng CHR.

Sa kabilang dako, bago pa ang kanyang appointment sa CHR, nagretiro si Fider-Reyes noong December 2023 mula sa judiciary matapos ang 17 taon ng serbisyo.

Nagsilbi siya bilang Presiding Judge ng Regional Trial Court (RTC), Third Judicial Region, City of San Fernando, Pampanga, Branch 42, na ang tungkulin ay bilang general jurisdiction court at itinalagang Special Commercial Court.

Sa kasalukuyan, nagsisilbi si Fider-Reyes bilang Acting Judge para sa ibang korte sa National Capital Judicial Region, kabilang na sa Makati, Las Piñas, Quezon City, at Manila, sa loob ng 12 taon.

Kasama rin sa naging karera ni Fider-Reyes ang private practice sa Palma Ybañez Fider-Reyes Teleron Law Offices sa Cebu City, SyCip Salazar Hernandez & Gatmaitan Law Offices at ang U.P. University Legal Counsel.

Nagturo si Fider-Reyes ng law (batas) sa University of Southern Philippines at University of San Jose Recoletos; at isang lecturer para sa MCLE ng UP Law Center Institute for the Administration of Justice.

“Her considerable judicial experience is further enriched by her time as a Court Attorney and her work with esteemed Justices of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals,” ayon sa ulat.

Si Fider-Reyes ay isa ring Chevening Scholar, nagpakadalubhasa siya sa International Rights of the Child sa University of London, Queen Mary and Westfield Colleges. Isa rin siyang visiting scholar sa International Legal Institute sa Washington, D.C., at kumuha ng kanyang Master of Laws sa University of Haifa sa Israel.

“Her rich legal and judicial experience equips her to be an invaluable asset to the Commission. Her multidisciplinary expertise and unwavering dedication to justice will undoubtedly strengthen CHR’s initiatives to protect and promote the rights of vulnerable, disadvantaged, and marginalized sectors,” ayon sa CHR.
