MANILA, Philippines – Posible ang mas mababang presyo ng kuryente ngayong Agosto dahil sa mas murang generation costs, mababang demand at malakas na halaga ng piso, sinabi ng Manila Electric Company (Meralco) nitong Biyernes, Agosto 4.
“We are optimistic that these factors would be enough to bring down the overall electricity rate for this month,” sinabi ng Meralco sa abiso.
Nitong Hulyo, tinapyasan ng power distributor ang household rate nito ng P0.7213 per kilowatt-hour (/kWh( na nagdala sa overall rate para sa isang typical na tirahan sa P11.1899/kWh mula sa P11.9112/kWh sa nagdaang buwan dahil sa pagbaba ng transmission at generation charges.
Katumabs ito ng P144 na bawas sa total electricity bill ng residential customers na kumukonsumo ng 200 kWh.
Para sa Agosto, sinabi ng Meralco na “[W]hile we have yet to receive the final billings from our suppliers, we expect a possible decrease in the generation charge this month.”
Idinagdag pa ng kompanya na nakakita rin ito ng mas mababang demand sa suplay noong nakaraang buwan, “which likely led to lower WESM (Wholesale Electricity Spot Market) prices.”
“The quarterly repricing of Malampaya will also reflect the lower crude prices over the past six months,” sinabi pa ng Meralco.
“The peso appreciation, which affects suppliers’ costs that are mostly dollar-denominated, will also help further pull down the generation charge,” dagdag nito. RNT/JGC
