MANILA, Philippines – UMABOT na sa limitasyon ang pagpapasensiya ng mga Filipino sa patuloy na agresyon ng Tsina sa West Philippine Sea (WPS).
Dahil dito, hindi sila basta-basta uupo na lamang at hayaan ang kanilang mga kababayan na magdusa.
Sinabi ni Philippine ambassador to the United States (US) Jose Manuel Romualdez na iyon ang dahilan kung bakit sinang-ayunan ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang “multilateral approach” sa maritime dispute sa WPS.
Aniya, bagamat hindi mabaybay ng Pilipinas ang intensyon ng Tsina, malinaw naman ang nais gawin ng Pilipinas at ito ay “to protect our territory and our sovereign rights.”
“You know, for so many years, the Filipino patience has been stretched to the limit. And we are now at the point where (we’re not) just going to sit and allow and see our fishermen suffer and not be able to fish in the areas that they’ve been fishing in – fishing grounds for hundreds of years,” ayon kay Romualdez.
“That is what the President is fighting for, that is what we’re all fighting for. We just want to be given our right to be able to explore our own environment, our territory, the respect for international law,” dagdag na wika nito.
Para kay Romualdez, ito na ang tamang panahon para sa Pilipinas na resolbahin at plantsahin ang usapin sa pamamagitan ng dayalogo “in a manner that is not intended to push another country for a conflict.”
Sa kabilang dako, kasalukuyan ngayong nasa Washington DC si Pangulong Marcos para makapulong ang kanyang mga counterparts na sina US President Joe Biden at Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, para isulong ang ekonomiya economic at maritime cooperation sa gitna ng agresibong aksyon ng Tsina sa West Philippine Sea, bahagi ng malawak na South China Sea na inaangkin naman ng ganap ng Beijing.
Ang iginigiit ng Tsina na nine-dash claim na ngayon ay 10-dash claim, ay binasura noong 2016 ng Permanent Court of Arbitration.
Sinabi ni Romualdez na ang makasaysayang trilateral summit ay magbibigay kahulugan at paliwanag sa hinaharap at direksyon ng
Indo-Pacific region, na ang Pilipinas ay maaaring humugot ng kaginhawaan mula sa “like-minded nations” na sumusuporta sa “freedom of navigation, rule of law, at sa 2016 arbitral award” na pinagtibay ang karapatan ng Pilipinas sa pinagtatalunang katubigan.
“So, these are things that we are simply fighting for. We’re not asking, looking for any conflict with any country. In fact, we’re reaching out to the ASEAN region. Again it’s a multilateral approach,” ayon kay Romualdez.
“This is a policy that the President has spelled out to all of us. That we want to be able to solve these issues multilaterally, not just because we have a strong ally like the United States.” aniya pa rin. Kris Jose
