MANILA, Philippines – Ayon sa isang opisyal ng Philippine Navy, magpapatuloy ang rotation at resupply (RORE) missions para sa mga tropang Pilipino sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) kahit na tinarget ng na-neutralize na espionage ring ang mga operasyong ito.
“Even without these three (alleged spies) who were approached and who confessed, the details of our missions, our operations, not only the RORE are constantly being evaluated and being adjusted for operation security. I would not like to go into the details as a matter arising out of this particular operation,” sabi ni Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad.
Nauna nang iniulat na ang impormasyon mula sa mga espiya ay may kinalaman sa “operational data for the WPS and plans of the PN for modernization and basing.” Ipinahayag ng National Security Council of the Philippines noong Marso 4 ang pagkakatuklas sa mga espiya at ang neutralisasyon sa mga ito gamit ang Insider Threat Program.
Hindi rin nag-speculate si Trinidad sa dahilan kung bakit ang mga espiya ay interesado sa mga tropa sa BRP Sierra Madre (LS-57). “What is important here is that we were able to identify and to stop the effort to surreptitiously gather information about the DND and the AFP activities, not only the WPS but in the overall posture of DND and the AFP,” dagdag niya.
Ayon kay Trinidad, ang pagkalat ng impormasyon sa kamay ng mga espiya ay maaaring makapanganib sa mga tropa. “These actions could be detrimental. This could put the lives of our men and women at risk, especially those conducting the RORE. And we don’t want this to happen,” sabi niya.
Tiniyak niya na ang seguridad sa BRP Sierra Madre at iba pang outposts sa WPS ay “continually being evaluated and enhanced as necessary.” RNT/MND
