MANILA, Philippines- Sinabi ni Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. na ang matagumpay na multilateral maritime cooperative activity (MMCA) ng naval forces ng Pilipinas, Estados Unidos, Japan at Australia ay bahagi ng nagpapatuloy na defensive posture shift ng Manila para protektahan ang teritoryo partikular na ang exclusive economic zone (EEZ) nito.
“The Philippines is changing its defense paradigms, strengthening its own capabilities, and leveraging alliances with allies and like-minded nations,” ayon sa Kalihim.
Dahil dito, ayon kay Teodoro, nagawa ng Pilipinas na ma-secure ang teritoryo at karapatan nito sa ilalim ng international law at maging epektibong katuwang ng ibang bansa para sa pagtitiyak ng “freedom of navigation, overflight, and security in international waters.”
Tinukoy ni Teodoro ang “Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept” (CADC), na naglalayong i-develop ang kakayahan ng bansa para protektahan ang buong teritoryo para masiguro na mapakikinabangan ng susunod na henerasyon ng mga Pilipino ang natural resources nito.
“The Philippines is committed to preserving a secure, stable, and peaceful Indo-Pacific Region. As an archipelagic country, it both upholds and champions a rules-based global order, especially in the maritime domain, where the primacy of UNCLOS (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) is well-established and enshrined in the 2016 Arbitral award,” dagdag na pahayag ng Pangulo.
Sa isinagawang MMCA nito lamang nakaraang Linggo, Abril 7 sa West Philippine Sea, idineploy ng Philippine Navy ang offshore patrol vessel na BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PS-15) kasama ang AW-109 helicopter, missile frigate BRP Antonio Luna (FF-151) kasama ang AW-159 Wildcat anti-submarine helicopter, at patrol ship BRP Valentin Diaz (PS-177).
Samatala, nagpartisipa naman ang US Navy kasama ang littoral combat ship, USS Mobile, at isang P-8A Poseidon aircraft kasama ang Royal Australian Navy’s guided missile frigate HMAS Warramunga at isang Royal Australian Air Force P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft; at Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force’s destroyer JS Akebono.
Sinabi ng DND na may dalawang vessels ng China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy ang namataan sa hindi kalayuan mula sa aktibidad.
