MANILA, Philippines – Binatikos noong Biyernes ng mga tagapagturo mula sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP) Diliman ang patuloy na “circus” sa pagitan ng House of Representatives at Senado habang nagsasagawa sila ng mga pagsisiyasat sa ng mga diumano’y maanomalyang proyektong pang-imprastraktura, lalo na ang mga proyekto sa flood control.
Alinsunod sa Black Friday Protest, itinuro ng UP Congress of Teachers/Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (Contend) na ang mga debate sa pagitan ng dalawa ay walang iba kundi isang “performance of othering.”
“The Senate and the House of Representatives are now desperately trying to cast themselves into two opposing figures: (1) the guilty, corrupt officials who have shamelessly enriched themselves from the people’s coffers, and (2) the so-called righteous officials who posture themselves as crusaders against corruption,” saad ng UP Contend.
Ipinunto nila na ang pagpapatalsik kay Sen. Francis Escudero bilang Senate president ay “clear example of how these politicians weaponize spectacle to mask their own complicity.”
Para sa kanila, ang pagpapatalsik kay Escudero at ang biglang papel ng mag-asawang Discaya bilang whistleblower sa kaso ay nagdulot ng maling kahulugan ng tagumpay.
Ang bid ni Sen. Rodante Marcoleta na ilagay ang mag-asawang Discaya sa ilalim ng witness protection program ay kalaunan ay tinanggihan ni Sotto.
Binigyang-diin ng UP Contend na dapat ding marinig ang boses ng sambayanang Pilipino sa nagpapatuloy na paglilitis sa Senado at Kamara.
“The voices of the poor, the workers, the farmers, the teachers, the youth—those who have been robbed, neglected, and betrayed—are completely silenced,” anila. “ Their suffering, their deaths, and their struggles have been erased from the discourse.”
Hinimok nila ang mga Pilipino na kumilos din sa mga lansangan at gumawa ng pampulitikang aksyon para igiit ang pananagutan sa mga matataas na opisyal.
“The people must act, organize, and rise,” anila. “Only through collective struggle can we smash this rotten system and build a society that truly serves the Filipino people.” RNT/MND
