NAVOTAS HONORS CITY TOP 10 MOST OUTSTANDING FISHERFOLK

THE Navotas City government has honored the Top 10 Most Outstanding Fisherfolk, highlighting its 119th Navotas City Day celebration.

Mayor John Rey Tiangco led other key officials including Rep. Toby Tiangco in recognizing the local fishermen “whose dedication and resilience have sustained generations and propelled the city’s progress.”

The Tiangco brothers have praised the vital contributions of the fishing community.

“You are the reason why our city was known to be the ‘Fishing Capital of the Philippines.’ This day, we celebrate and honor you all for your sacrifices to your family and your community,” the mayor said.

The Navotas lawmaker said that it is a celebration not just of the past “but of the brighter future that lies ahead for Navoteños.”

‘NavoBangka-buhayan’ Program

The local government has reaffirmed its dedication to the welfare of local fisherfolk by distributing fishing boats and nets under the NavoBangka-buhayan program.

The Tiangco brothers personally turned over the 22 30-foot fiberglass boats to some 44 fisherfolk.

Additionally, 925 registered Navoteño fishing boat owners received fishing nets of various sizes to support their livelihood.

“Providing these tools is more than just assistance; it’s about empowering our fisherfolk to uplift their families and contribute meaningfully to our local economy,” Mayor Tiangco said.

“Our fisherfolk are the backbone of Navotas’ identity as the Fishing Capital of the Philippines. Supporting them ensures the sustainability of our heritage and strengthens our community,” Cong. Tiangco said.

Marcos admin’s connectivity, digitalization program backed

Rep. Tiangco, House Information and Communications Technology chairperson, has vowed his full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s continued push for better connectivity across the Philippines.

“Sabi nga ng Pangulo, walang dapat maiiwan. Dapat lahat ng Pilipino magkaroon ng access sa internet.”

“Congress is ready to back the President’s vision, particularly in streamlining processes and institutionalizing reforms necessary for better digital infrastructure,” he added.

He also echoed the president’s call to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to prioritize its Common Tower Program to reach underserved and remote areas.
