THE coastal city of Navotas has marked a milestone in its history with the inauguration of the Navotas Convention Center which could host Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) games, its top local officials said.
The four-story structure was first initiated by Mayor John Rey Tiangco when he’s the city’s representative at the lower chamber and was pushed by incumbent Rep. Toby Tiangco when he succeeded the former in 2022.
Highlighting the celebration, the local government invited PBA players for a three-point shootout after the blessing ceremony that happened over the weekend.
The incumbent mayor, seeking a second term in the May 12, 2025 midterm elections, expressed his excitement over the new facility, emphasizing its role in promoting community engagement and tourism opportunities.
”This used to be our dream, now it’s real.”
“Aside from conventions and seminars, among others, we also see the possibility of hosting PBA games in the future in our very own convention center,” he added.
Meanwhile, the mayor’s brother, Congressman Tiangco, noted the importance of investing in modern infrastructure to support the city’s development.
”With the opening of the convention center, where big social and business events are expected to be held in the near future, this would surely open more opportunities for our constituents,” said the veteran lawmaker, also a re-electionist.
He said that more job opportunities would be available for the residents and the local economy would surely get better.
More infra projects inaugurated
The Tiangco brothers also led the blessing of the San Rafael Village and NBBS Dagat-dagatan multi-purpose buildings as part of the city government’s continuous efforts to enhance public infrastructure.
The city chief executive has cited the importance of these new facilities in fostering community development and improving the quality of life for ’Navoteños.’
The Navotas lawmaker, for his part, reaffirmed his commitment to continue pushing for infrastructure projects that benefit the community and contribute to the overall development of the coastal city.
The new structures were inaugurated on the same day as the convention center, marking a milestone in the city’s commitment to modernization and improved public service facilities, the top officials reiterated.
