OCD naghahanda na para sa La Niña

MANILA, Philippines- Namahagi ang Office of Civil Defense (OCD) ng P5 milyong halaga ng kagamitan at iba pang disaster-related items sa local officials ng Batanes bilang bahagi ng paghahanda para sa La Niña phenomenon.

Kilala ang Batanes bilang karaniwang daanan ng malalakas na bagyo at sinabi ni OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno na bahagi ang donasyon ng pagsisikap na palakasin ang disaster response capabilities ng local government units (LGUs).

“We are now preparing for the rainy season and La Nina. Batanes is prone to strong typhoons and is always isolated. The key is pre-positioning adequate relief goods and equipment so these will be available immediately when they need them,” wika ni Nepomuceno.

“The Local Government Units are at the frontline during emergencies. They are the first to help. That is why we need to empower them by enhancing their capabilities through various ways like this [augmentation of supplies],” patuloy niya.

Ani Nepomuceno, kabilang sa non-food items ang family packs, shelter repair kits, hygiene kits, at mga lubid na natanggap ni Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco.

Nakipagpulong din si Nepomuceno sa municipal mayors ng Batanes at tinalakay ang iba’t ibang DRRM concerns sa kani-kanilang areas of responsibility. RNT/SA
