MANILA, Philippines – Nasamsam ng Bureau of Customs ang mahigit P21 milyong halaga ng hindi dokumentadong mga sigarilyo mula sa isang barko sa Pio Duran, Albay.
Ayon sa BOC nitong Sabado, Disyembre 7, taglay ng motorized banca na “Susie” ang 377 master cases ng hindi dokumentadong sigarilyo na nagkakahalaga ng P21,602,100 noong Nobyembre 21.
Sa inisyal na imbestigasyon, napag-alaman na walang revenue seal ang mga sigarilyo.
Hindi rin nakapagpakita ng legal na dokumento ng mga produkto ang siyam na crew members na sakay ng barko.
“This operation underscores our relentless commitment to combating the illicit trade of cigarettes and dismantling the nefarious activities of smuggling networks,” ayon kay BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio.
Ilalabas ang warrant of seizure and detention sa mga sigarilyo at ang paglabag sa Customs Modernization and Tariff Act in relation to the Amended Rules and regulations Governing the Exportation and Importation of Tobacco and Tobacco Products pursuant to Executive Order 245, at ang paglabag sa National Internal Revenue Code of the Philippines.
Ang operasyon ay isinagawa sa tulong ng Philippine National Police-Maritime Group (PNP-MG), Regional Maritime Unit 5, at Ligao Maritime Law Enforcement Team (MLET). RNT/JGC
