MANILA, Philippines – NASA P31.6 milyon halaga ng bihira at mataas na presyo ng punongkahoy ang naharang ng mga tauhan ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) sa isinagawang operasyon noong Hulyo 30, 2025 sa isang bodega sa Pasay City.
Nabatid sa BOC, ang kargamento, na idineklara bilang “Mahogany Wood Hand Curving Design” at “Pack of Dried Sibukaw Woodstick,” ay sumailalim sa isang masusing pisikal na pagsusuri na nagresulta sa pagkakadiskubre na naglalaman ito ng agarwood—isa sa pinakamahal at pinakatanyag na uri ng kahoy sa buong mundo dahil sa paggamit nito sa pabango, tradisyonal na gamot, at mga mamahaling produkto.
Ang pagtatangkang pag-export ay bumubuo ng mga paglabag sa ilang mga regulasyon sa kapaligiran at customs, kabilang ang Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), Presidential Decree No. 705 o ang Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines, at Republic Act No. 9147 o ang Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, na namamahala sa kalakalan at pag-export ng mga endangered species.
Isinagawa ang operasyon sa tulong ng Environmental Protection Compliance Division (EPCD) sa ilalim ng BOC Enforcement Group. Ang mga nakumpiskang agarwood ay ibibigay sa Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) para sa tamang paghawak at disposisyon.
