MANILA, Philippines – Humiling si Senador Robin Padilla sa Senate committee on women “to refrain from compelling any testimony” mula kay Pastor Apollo Quiboloy sa oras na magsimula na ang legal proceedings ng Department of Justice (DOJ).
Ang hiling kay kasama sa liham na ipinadala kay Senador Risa Hontiveros na may petsang Marso 11, 2024. Si Hontiveros ang chairperson ng Senate committee on women.
Kasalukuyang iniimbestigahan ng komite ni Hontiveros ang umano’y pang-aabuso, kabilang ang rape, laban sa lider ng
Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC).
“In the event that legal proceedings are initiated, this representation trusts that the Committee will take into consideration the principles outlined in the Bengzon ruling and refrain from compelling any testimony from Pastor Quiboloy, as such action may inadvertently influence the judicial process,” sinabi pa ni Padilla sa kanyang liham.
Inilabas sa media ang kopya ng liham nitong Miyerkules, Marso 13.
Ani Padilla, sa 1991 case ni Bengzon vs Senate blue ribbon committee, kinilala ng ruling ang kapangyarihan ng Kongreso na imbestigahan ang mga bagay na “which it may potentially legislate or appropriate.”
Sa kabila nito, sinabi sa kaparehong ruling na “the Congress cannot inquire into matters which are within the exclusive province of one of the other branches of the government.”
Sa hiwalay na liham, Marso 11, umapela si Padilla sa komite na suspendihin ang contempt order na inisyu ng panel laban kay Quiboloy sa pagdinig noong Marso 5.
Hiniling na lamang ng senador sa panel na maglabas ng show-cause order laban kay Quiboloy. RNT/JGC
