MANILA, Philippines – Muling bibisitahin ng pamahalaan ng Pilipinas at Japan ang pag-aaral noong 2004 kaugnay sa epekto ng tinatawag na “The Big One,” magnitude 7.2 o mas malakas pang lindol sa Metro Manila.
“Next year we will revisit the study,” sinabi ni Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) Director Teresito Bacolcol sa Saturday News Forum nitong Sabado, Oktubre 4.
“In fact there are already ongoing talks with JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), OCD (Office of Civil Defense), DOST, and of course our office,” dagdag pa ni Bacolcol.
Tinatalakay sa 2004 “Earthquake Impact Reduction Study for Metro Manila” ng JICA, PHIVOLCS, at Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) ang posibleng scenario kung tumama ang magnitude 7.2 na lindol sa National Capital Region.
Ipinapakita sa pag-aaral na sa Metro Manila pa lamang, sa panahon ng pag-aaral ay mayroong populasyon na 9,932,560, at maaaring umabot sa hanggang 33,500 ang bilang ng mamamatay at 113,600 ang masasaktan kung tumama ang lindol.
“We will revisit the study. Of course, that’s already 20 years old and a lot has already happened… The population of Metro Manila grew and there are a lot of new buildings so we really need to revisit the study,” ani Bacolcol.
Sa datos mula sa Philippine Statistics Authority, ipinakita na ang kabuuang populasyon ng NCR ay umaabot na sa 14,001,751 batay sa 2024 Census of Population.
Ani Bacolcol, ang bagong pag-aaral ay inaasahang makukumpleto sa loob ng dalawang taon “but definitely it will start next year.”
Matatandaan na muling nanumbalik ang usapin tungkol sa “The Big One” matapos tumama ang magnitude 6.9 na lindol sa Cebu na dulot ng isang fault na hindi pa gumagalaw sa loob ng mahigit 400 taon. RNT/JGC
